A new curriculum in Climate Change Adaptation will be activated for the master degree programme in Civil Engineering at the University of Bologna. The new Curriculum in Climate Change Adaptation has been conceived by considering the increasing demand of institutions, industries, environmental boards - and stakeholders in general - of technicians and methods for designing solutions to mitigate the increasing pressure of climate variability and change. Devising and sizing strategies, infrastructures and solutions for climate change adaptation is a compelling requirement for copying with local and global challenges, yet little technical guidance and few professionals are today available with the required advanced skills. For addressing the increasing demand of the job market, the new curriculum in Civil Engineering Climate Change Adaptation at the university of Bologna builds on the ideas, skills and experience of several international and acknowledge professors and researchers who are world class leaders in climate change analysis and adaptation.
The new curriculum will in particular focus on lands, coastal and marine environments. It will be taught for the first year in Bologna, with an educational programme that is shared by all the curricula in Civil Engineering. The second year, specifically focusing on climate change and adaptation, will be taught in Ravenna, where a fertile and stimulating environment, and the presence of several industries working on marine and coastal protection and recovery, offers the ideal venue for learning unique skills.

Ravenna, where lectures of the second year will be taught, is reachable by train with a 70-minute connection, with several trains travelling during the day (see www.trenitalia.com). Ravenna offers cheap opportunities for lodging.
The concept
The Master of Science in Civil Engineering includes four areas specialising in structural, water, transportation and climate adaptation engineering, emphasising topics such as resilience, risk, sustainability and climate change adaptation.
State-of-the-art laboratories, internships at international companies, double degree agreements and Erasmus exchanges will prepare you for an international career.
The programme focuses on topics relating to structural, hydraulic and transport engineering.
The Curriculum in climate change adaptation is taught for the first year in Bologna and the second year in Ravenna, where there is a long history of research and teaching in marine engineering, renewable energy, sustainability of land and coastal areas.
Students will learn how to design climate change adaptation strategies and structures, with reference to the sea environment, water resources, structures and infrastructures under climate forcing.
